Design Brief
A full renovation and extension project to transform the home, including a full interior design package for our clients.
A cohesive, light-filled kitchen, living environment...
The existing rear of the property was dominated by a dated conservatory and disconnected utility space. These areas suffered from poor thermal performance, overheating in summer and feeling cold and unusable in winter. More importantly, they failed to integrate with the main house, creating a fragmented ground floor layout.
Our approach was to completely replace this structure with a carefully designed rear extension, transforming the space into a cohesive, light-filled kitchen, living, and dining environment.
At the heart of the design is a generous open-plan space, centred around a large kitchen island designed for both everyday use and social interaction. Large rear openings and rooflights bring natural light deep into the plan, while maintaining a strong visual connection to the garden – allowing the family to stay connected to outdoor life throughout the day. Consideration was given to solar exposure and wind, with provision for a pergola or awning to improve comfort throughout the year, alongside space for outdoor cooking and dining. Materially, the extension is designed to sit comfortably within its context – using brickwork to match the existing house, paired with contemporary aluminium framed doors featuring subtle heritage detailing.
Beyond the extension, the project rethinks the wider ground floor. A new, more practical WC replaces the cramped under-stairs arrangement. The result is a well-balanced transformation that enhances both the performance and liveability of the home – creating a connected, adaptable space designed around modern family life.
